Who we are

Beyond the Camp (BTC) strives to provide refugee children in East Africa a basic education to help break the cycle of poverty.

Founded in the United States in 2010, Beyond the Camp (also called the Burundi Education Fund) has helped provide schooling, food and healthcare to thousands of children and families in Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda. We pay tuition and school fees and purchase supplies and uniforms. We also provide supplemental food and microloans. We know that children need to be healthy in order to learn, so we arrange medical care when students are in need.

Our key focus is to:

Educate

Education is our mission. We want to help as many refugee children as possible complete their education through high school.

Nourish and Heal

Students have difficulty succeeding and staying in school if they experience hunger, food insecurity or poor health. We provide meals and attend to the health care needs of the children we sponsor and their families.

Foster Economic Self-Sufficiency

We provide interest-free microloans to refugee parents with school-age children so they can create or grow businesses, support their family and pay for their children’s education. Giving families the tools for economic self-sufficiency allows Beyond the Camp to extend its mission to sponsor more students.
