Lack of access to clean drinking water is one of the causes of multiple preventable diseases. Poor drinking water leads to health problems and prevents children from attending school and parents from caring for their children. Beyond the Camp (BTC) is committed to helping prevent Malaria, typhoid, intestinal worms, and dehydration through clean drinking water. Many refugees do not have access to basic medication or health professionals.
Typhoid fever is rampant among urban refugees and camps particularly in Uganda Due to unclean water. Clean drinking water, antibiotics, and inexpensive malaria medications can prevent and help refugees recover from such challenges. With only $2.25, BTC can provide enough water to 100 children during lunch at school.
Other afflictions refugees endure include stomachache, diabetes, gynecological problems, injuries from torture or gang rape, short-sightedness, etc. For about $10, a refugee can consult a physician and it only costs $11-$14 to cure a child of typhoid malaria and avoid premature death.
Successful Cases: BTC is proud to share that Ruth, a little girl, who dropped out of high school in Rwanda due to mental health struggles was able to recover with our assistance. With $1600, we were able to provide Ruth a psychologist, 2 weeks of hospitalization so that she can regain her health back to return to normal life and attend school.
We also helped Francoise and Liesse in Rwanda and Uganda to get access to MRI for a cost of $350. Ezechiel at Nakivale Refugee Camp was able to reclaim his vision back for only $112.68!
